About us
The Centre for Women’s Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka, opened on March 1, 2016, is a scientific research platform that brings together science, art, and activism. It connects students, researchers, scientists, artists, civil society stakeholders, and engaged citizens around the topics of feminism, gender theory, critical theory, and the theory of sexuality.
The Centre contributes to creating a society of equal opportunities for all citizens, and raises awareness about the importance of gender equality, women’s human rights, as well as the rights of other vulnerable groups.
The primary goal of the Centre is to continuously inform and educate all members of the community on the aforementioned topics, as well as to encourage collaboration among scientists at the University of Rijeka whose research is based on or relates to feminist and gender theories, regardless of their discipline or field.
The Centre enhances a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to research at the Faculty, strengthening interdepartmental collaboration as well as cooperation between different components of the University. It connects Centre members with national and international scientists and artists, and develops collaborations with external institutions. It facilitates the joint presentation and promotion of the scientific and professional work of the Faculty’s scientists regarding feminist and gender theories of sexuality and sexual/gender identities, with the aim of increasing the visibility, evaluation, and dissemination of this work within the domestic and international academic community.
