After a pause of several years, the Centre for Women’s Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka is restarting Kino učionica, a series of films, lectures and discussions, and in 2026 announces seven sessions, the first of which will take place on Thursday, April 9, at 18:30 at Gallery SKC (Kružna Street 6, Rijeka).

In 2026, Kino učionica is thematically tied to remilitarisation trends currently at work in Croatia, Europe and globally, approaching them – through a selected film programme and invited experts – from different perspectives, but certainly through a gender lens. The thematic cycles are structured as follows: War and Education: The Militarisation of Education, The Gendered Body as a Battlefield, Climate Crisis and Militarisation, Feminist Perspectives on the Rearming of the EU and the Militarisation of Borders, The Arms Industry and Its Local Presence, Media and Militarism, and Feminist Legacies of Anti-war Movements in the Former Yugoslavia.

Kino učionica was launched in 2017 as a project of the then newly established Centre for Women’s Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka, in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Studies and Art-kino Rijeka, and with the support of the Student Cultural Centre, as an educational and research programme for reflecting on selected feminist or gender-theoretical topics through film and related visual/media materials.
